ACAOM’s Community Service Programs Offer Healing, Study Opportunities
The American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has established deep roots in the Houston community over the last two decades. Through numerous community service programs, thousands of people have been served in various ways including free and discounted treatments and scholarships to students of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In 2012, ACAOM’s community service programs provided almost 4000 free and discounted treatments to senior citizens, students, patients in need, teachers, police officers, fire fighters, and other patients. These services totaled $93,553 worth of TCM community services, and introduced many new people to acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and clinical tuina services provided by the school.
In addition to discount treatments, the American Foundation of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (AFAOM) has given out fourteen scholarships to students attending ACAOM totaling $14,800 just this year. Through fundraising events, including an annual Gala celebration each October, ACAOM and AFAOM will continue to increase focus and funding to these outreach efforts, in the hopes of reaching even more people in upcoming years, and supporting the health and wellness of the great city of Houston and beyond.
